Google Playtown

A responsive microsite was built for Google Playtown Korea, to recommend games to users who may not know what their game persona is.

This project’s objective aimed to reach out to game enthusiasts, to find their inner player personalities for greater immersion into better mobile gaming experiences. To define the type of game players they are, users play a series of micro games that challenge their speed, wit, reactivity and thought process — then providing recommended games that are most suitable to them from the Google Play store based on their quiz results.

Avatars representing each game-player type were thoroughly thought through, and created in an adorable style with a twist. Users can choose to share these avatars and personas of themselves on social media.

MY ROLE
I was part of a team that collectively came up with ideation of the micro-games, brainstorming the algorithm to produce results of personalized characters. My role also involved wireframing, UI design of the website, colour palette selection with the use of the Google brand colours, to sync with the isometric illustrations done by Carrie Ho.

The wireframing process involving mobile optimization was an important consideration since most users would access this microsite via their mobile phones. The games concept and design also had to be created based on usability by gestures such as tapping/swiping, as well as keeping it interesting and entertaining for a series of micro challenges.

The development team produced prototypes that we later tested and re-adjusted game mechanics due to user testing and feasibility.
